Shanghai -- President of China Europe International Business School Prof. Zhu Xiaoming this morning announced the launch of the 2009 CEIBS 15th Anniversary Distinguished Alumni Awards Selection. The awards theme is “Management Changes China, Education Enlightens the Future”. The home page for the Distinguished Alumni Awards Selection and the website for CEIBS 15th Anniversary were also unveiled at the same time, marking the official beginning of CEIBS 15th Anniversary celebrations.
CEIBS Vice President and Co-Dean Prof. Zhang Weijiong, Party Committee Secretary and President of Jiefang Daily Group Yin Minhua, President of CEIBS Alumni Association Taiwan Chapter and General Manager of HOLA Gu Yihua, Legal Counsellor Ge Yongbin, and other CEIBS alumni representatives attended the ceremony, which began at 10am.

In delivering the opening address, President Zhu Xiaoming said, “CEIBS launches this Distinguished Alumni Awards Selection not only in order to highlight CEIBS’ academic achievements and promote the alumni’s passion for the school, but to reflect the advances made in China’s business management and the significant changes that have taken place in China’s economy.  I sincerely hope that this selection process will encourage more alumni to make further contributions to our society, help people from all circles to better understand business management innovations in China, and form a clearer picture of the major trend of China’s economic and social development.”

“Open, Honest, and Fair” Selection Process

The first Distinguished Alumni Awards is designed to honour alumni for their remarkable accomplishments in various areas, and for their dedicated contributions to CEIBS and the wider society. These alumni have brought honour to CEIBS, made contributions to the public, been at the forefront of major trends, and encouraged others to contribute more towards China’s development.

According to CEIBS Assistant President Dr. Zhou Xuelin, the winners of the 2009 Distinguished Alumni Awards will be selected from candidates directly nominated by more than 8,000 CEIBS alumni, CEIBS faculty and staff. Opinions posted online will also be taken into consideration.

This event has 4 award categories:
- CEIBS Distinguished Alumni Award,
- CEIBS Outstanding Young Alumni Award,
- CEIBS Alumni Contribution Award, and
- CEIBS Alumni Charity Award.
The first three are for individuals and the last one is for teams. The selection process consists of four phases: nomination of candidates, primary selection, final selection, and the announcement of the final results. The Awards Ceremony will be held during the CEIBS 15th Anniversary Celebration Party at the end of October, 2009.

CEIBS Distinguished Alumni Award is the highest honour that can be bestowed on alumni with remarkable accomplishments in specific areas at a national, regional or global level. CEIBS Outstanding Young Alumni Award is an honour for alumni who have benefited from their study in CEIBS and made major innovations, in operation & management, which have had significant impact on both the business world and the wider society. These alumni are seen as industry leaders with great potential. CEIBS Alumni Contribution Award is an honour given by CEIBS to express its gratitude to alumni for their continuous support and great contribution to the school’s development. CEIBS Alumni Charity Award is an honour given by CEIBS to alumni organizations for their long-term commitment to charity & public welfare and outstanding performance of their social responsibilities.

Zhong Lun Law Firm, as the legal advisor for this event, will ensure that it is conducted openly, honestly, and fairly.

As explained by Zhong Lun Law Firm Partner Ge Yongbin (CEIBS EMBA07), the Firm will, in the primary selection phase, conduct a legal review of all the nomination forms and relevant materials received, and then issue a written examination report for the Jury Panel’s reference. In the final selection phase, Zhong Lun will conduct due diligence on the background checks of finalists (e.g., relevant certificate authentication, interviews with finalists, and commitment letters of finalists), and then issue a written report accordingly. Zhong Lun will be the legal witness for the entire award selection process, in order to ensure that the candidates compete in a fair manner and the event realizes its true value. In providing legal services for this event, Zhong Lun hopes to help CEIBS build it into a new branding event with profound social impact.

Since its inception, this event has received wide attention and support from numerous alumni. Gu Yihua, President of the 130-member strong CEIBS Alumni Taiwan Chapter, have given a commitment that they will assist CEIBS Alumni Association with the nomination and selection process.

15 Years, 8,000 Alumni

Within 15 years since its foundation, approximately 8,000 business elites have graduated from CEIBS. These alumni have formed a valuable network made up of 32 regional chapters inside and outside of China. As China’s Premier Wen Jiabao said, CEIBS has become an incubator for excellent business leaders. CEIBS is always dedicated to its historic mission and social responsibility ? not only changing the mindset of thousands of alumni, but also indirectly influencing millions of employees in alumni enterprises; and focusing on the improvement of alumni’s management capability with the final goal of improving Chinese businesses and the national economy.

During today’s event, Party Secretary and President of Jiefang Daily Group, Mr. Yin Minghua (CEIBS EMBA 03 intake), shared how CEIBS helped shape his professional development. He emphasized CEIBS’ consistent adherence to a rigorous academic process, which could be seen all the way through from student recruiting, course delivery, to graduation. All these details contribute to the final transformation of each CEIBS student’s insights. CEIBS rigorous academic programme and excellent faculty have greatly benefited its students and encouraged them to go even beyond professional success.

CEIBS alumni can be found everywhere. In CCTV’s annual list of China’s top ten economic leaders, one or two are usually CEIBS alumni. Past honourees include Dong Mingzhu, Jin Zhiguo, and Chen Zhilie. In the field of media, CEIBS alumni include Jiefang Daily Group Party Secretary and President Yin Minghua, Shanghai Media Group President Li Ruigang, Chinese Entrepreneur Editor-in-Chief Huang Lilu, and Sina Editor-in-Chief Chen Tong. Indeed, CEIBS alumni are increasingly influencing China’s economic development in various industries and fields.

During today’s ceremony, President Zhu explained the rationale for choosing “Management Changes China, Education Enlightens the Future” as the theme: since the establishment of the school, he stressed, CEIBS has always been dedicated to preparing highly competent business leaders capable of meeting the challenges of globalization.
